Work Overview

As Blue as Turquoise Pearls, is an adaptation for cello of the The Water Dragon (The Scorpio Song), the eighth song in Margaret Brandman's 'Cosmic Wheel of the Zodiac' song cycle inspired by the lyrics of astropoet Benita Rainer.
This cello version is in the key of D Major and begins with the piano introduction suggesting cascading water. Cellist Ariel Volovelsky together with composer/pianist Margaret Brandman recorded this work for her Cello Sensations series on the ModernClassicalX label.
