Reflection : for string orchestra / Lisa Cheney.

Work Overview
Reflection was originally conceived on one January evening, during the composition program at the 2012 Australian Youth Orchestra Music Camp. By the time I sat down to write the work I was exhausted, having only very recently finished an intense 5 days of writing a serial work for chamber orchestra. Consequently, 'Reflection' emerged as a kind of reaction to the turbulent previous work as it it is tonal, expressive and was written with much love for a special person in my life. Post camp, the work was edited and extended to this current version. Musically, I view the most notable influences of this work to be Sigur Ros and Per Nørgård, in particular Nørgård's 'Pastorale' for string orchestra.
