Work Overview

Very accessible both to perform and to listen to. As COVID-19 suddenly shocked the world into lockdown, hitting Australia in March 2020 (just as the catastrophic bushfires were abating, though not the damage they had caused), I was planning my daughter's 21st birthday party. It had to be cancelled, and the isolation circumstances kept me away from her for weeks or months at a time. In April, I composed this piece for her as a celebration of her life as she turned 21. The music has a lot of fatherly pride. But I can also now hear a lot of melancholy in the music, capturing the profound separation and isolation I was feeling, as we all were, in April 2020.
