Work Overview
The work is built around snatches of prayer inspired by the murmured recitations of an elderly resident of the Thonde Zanskar valley. The sutras seem to capture the spirit of this remote valley, in the long-disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir, which is home to seven different monasteries.
Additional bed-tracks - based on recordings that include night ambience in Barcelona and Melbourne, as well as a flea market in Lisbon and a stream in the High Atlas in Morocco - are combined with Asian percussion instruments and a solo bass clarinet.
