Work

Ground Thunder Returns : for double bass and piano

by Christina Green (2017)

Work Overview

Ground Thunder Returns (2017) for piano and double bass was inspired by hexagram 24, Fu/Return, from the I Ching (Book of Changes). In response to the commission brief, it explores a range of textures and combinations on the two instruments, underpinned by ideas from the composer's response to I Ching hexagram 24, encountered through reading Wild Ivy: the Spiritual Autobiography of Zen Master Hakuin (translated by Noramn Waddell).
