This Étude was composed especially for the Chopin Inspired Composition Competition 2012, however the competition was cancelled, in part due to the changes at the ANU School of Music, Canberra.
The piece explores the technical requirements of performing a consistent octave quaver pattern beneath a beautiful, introspective melody. The mood and colour of this piece is very similar to Chopin's Nocturnes.
Duration: 8 min.
Difficulty: Medium — Grade 7+, however in the most difficult sections (b.41 and b.79) the performer has the option to omit the more difficult notes (as indicated by cue-sized note heads)
The composer notes the following influences, etc associated with this work:
Chopin Prelude Op. 28 no. 2 in A minor; Nocturne Op. posth no. 20 in c# minor.
