Work Overview
time line is a brief meditation on continuity and change, inspired by a Swiss grandfather clock which was passed down across three centuries and more than a dozen generations of my Gyger ancestors in America. The clock ticks off the seconds across most of the piece, intersecting with new ideas in a variety of different tempi. It recedes in the final bars; my father, being a younger son, did not inherit the clock - but he also broke the chain in a more significant way by emigrating to Australia, thus beginning a new phase of Gyger family history.
