Instrumentation: Tenor (also antique cymbals, Tibetan rattle drum, claves), piano (also brass, bamboo and glass chimes, 3 gamelan gongs, Indian bells, celesta, prepared piano), 2 percussionists, flute (and piccolo), oboe, harp.

Contents note: I. As the temple bell fades -- II. A fragrance of orchids -- III. The water-dripping rite.

Set to haiku by Matsuo Basho.

The three sets are discrete cycles in their own right and may be performed separately, or as a complete cycle.

Amplification of the piano is required.
