Work Overview
The whimsical title of this tune (inspired by the Tchaikovsky classic) reflects the slightly comical undertone that pervades the composition. Ben Harmsen, the bassist who premiered the piece with me in 1994, described the feel of the work as "slightly tipsy". This is quite an apt description! More seriously, I was also hoping to capture some of the loose ensemble playing heard on Charles Mingus's classic Ah Um! album.
