Work Overview
On a hot December day on a property near Bathurst, New South
Wales, I imagined the aural image of a father crooning his
newborn baby to sleep with a lilting, pastoral melody. At the
time I was supposed to be well-entrenched into writing my Ph.D.
thesis, but the temptation to write a piece of music was just too
much.
Lullaby, for strings, was the result. Lullaby
is not a piece that aims to change the world, rather, a simple
expression of quiet, personal times between people generations
apart.
I am especially pleased that Lullaby will be premiered
at the Vale of Glamorgan Festival as I imagine the melody may
suit the landscape. Matthew Hindson, 2003
