This piece was written for the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup in Sydney in October 2003. The brief was to write for a Dance of the "Fire Trees" and the organizers asked for a 3 -minute rhythmic and dramatic piece. It was played by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra conducted by Lyn Williams, who was the musical director of the whole event.
Instrumentation: Piccolo, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, cor anglais, 2 clarinets in B flat, bass clarinet in B flat, 3 bassoons, 4 horns in F, 3 trumpets in C, 2 tenor trombones, bass trombone, tuba, timpani, percussion (4 players), harp, piano, strings.

Can be performed together with 'Lotus'.
