Work Overview

Simon Reade has conducted a number of premiere performances of my works with a variety of Tasmanian ensembles, both instrumental and vocal, over the last 20 years or so. This work, though, I've composed for him as both conductor and solo trumpeter to celebrate our continuing collaboration.

It comprises three movements with the second linked to the finale without a break.

Work Details

Year: 2019, this version: 2020

Instrumentation: Trumpet in C or B flat, piano.

Duration: 14 min.

Difficulty: Advanced

Contents note: Con espressione -- con sentimento -- con spirito.

Commission note: Composed for Simon Reade

This Concerto was composed in short score for trumpet and piano before Don Kay did the orchestration. It is from this original short score that I have done this 'Version for Trumpet and Piano' in the hope of enabling more performances of this wonderful new concerto. (Simon Reade, 2020)
