Work Overview
When, earlier in June 2020, I spent seven days in hospital with pneumonia, I was attended each day by an outstanding young Danish nurse. My friend and collaborator, John Honey, rang me several times to see how I was progressing. Each time I sang the praises of nurse Kirstine who clearly did much to brighten my days. When John visited me a few days after returning home, he presented me with his poem, 'The Danish nurse', signing it at the end, 'By John channelling Don, June 2020'. I sat on it for a week and quite spontaneously decided to set it as a song, swayed really by the little refrain "Scandi noir, scandi blanche." I completed the composition on 27th and a fair copy on 30th.
