Work Overview

I have set this Psalm as a lament, an elegy in exile. I have used a mode familiar to ancient Hebrew music to take listeners back to a historical reality and place. We know the first lyrics today, 'By the waters of Babylon' as a catchy tune, but the actual story is very grim. It asks, 'how can we sing the Lord's song in a strange land?' A question very pertinent to refugees around the globe. The end of this Psalm is very upsetting so is shown as optional and can be omitted.
