Score & Part
Elephantine march : for trumpet and piano / Justin Michael McKay.
Library shelf no. 788.92/MCK 1 [Not for loan]
Work Overview
Elephantine March was composed in 2008, the same year as the composer's first opera, Alice in Wonderland premiered. A slightly jazz-influenced style is evident in parts of the work. A highly challenging trumpet part is featured in this work. The trumpet begins freely and unaccompanied, finding its way amid a maze of chromaticism. Soon the piano enters, ushering in a more playful mood, and whimsical canons ensue. A variation-like passage brings the piece to a rousing conclusion.
