Work Overview
Herran armo on suuri was written for a dear friend of mine, Ulla Rapelli, who lives in Helsinki. The Finnish text is verses 1 to 5 of Psalm 103 - "Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits - who forgives all your sins and heals all you diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed, like the eagle's." - NIV.
This is a piece well suited to church choirs. Don't be daunted by the fact that the text is in Finnish! This is a language that is very easy to sing - unlike English, it is a phonetic language, so it is pronounced exactly as it is spelled, and every vowel is sounded.
