Work Overview
I came across the text for Laudate eum solo et luna whilst researching Latin texts on the web. A musical theme immediately sprang to mind and so I set to composing the setting. Comprised of two main sections, this short work opens with a unison melody, alternating quadruple and triple time to align with the word accents. The theme is later developed into a contrapuntal texture and each section is completed with four bars of an elated "laudate eum".
The text is from Psalm 148 verse 3, which translates as "Praise him sun and moon". The second part of this same verse is set to music in Laudate eum omnes stellae luminis.
