Looking Out From A Glass Forest : for piano trio

by Chris Pickering (2023)

Work Overview

Looking Out From A Glass Forest is Chris Pickering's first work for Piano Trio. It is a larger work constructed across 5 movements, with the inner movements featuring duets between different pairings from within the group. The title is an reference to the mystical worlds of Japanese author Haruki Murakami; where things seem real and recognisable, but often propelled by a concealed purpose or meaning. The glass forest is filled with trees - each one clear and transparent enough to see through - but as one looks through many glass trees the view or path seems cloudier, and the light more refracted.
