Work Overview

Designed as a "show-off" set of short pieces, Marimba Etudes are as much sound explorations as technical ones, as the player, by judiciously choosing mallets, can produce a range of tone suitable to each different movement. Altiplano draws on the Andean music of South America, while Chorale is an expansion of a hymn-like tune. Passacaglia is an exercise in producing even playing while changing mallet combinations, and Toccata is a fast piece travelling all over the instrument.
