Work Overview
My3LiNAti0nS (2019) seeks to use music to reduce the stigma associated with communication disorders and disability more generally. It aims to highlight the beauty present in stuttered speech and was inspired by musicologist Laurie Stras observation that "The disrupted voice conveys meaning even before it conveys language" (2006). This work draws from the intricate melodic and rhythmic patterns revealed when stuttering moments are slowed down significantly, bringing to light the incredible beauty and complexity of the 'dysfluent' sound.
