Work Overview
This work expands the traditional piano duo by replacing one instrument with a toy piano. The work is a musical response to the novel Underground by Haruki Murakami which explores the Tokyo sarin gas attacks of 1995. The piece is a reflection on the death toll of the population and the resilience of the victims and their families in the time after the attack. Throughout the piece, the toy piano depicts the vibrancy of the human spirit against the meditative and solemn piano part.
