Work Overview

Belye Nochi (White Nights) (2012) is a collaborative composition by Katia Tiutiunnik and Ross Carey. The violin part is the entirety of Katia's composition 'La Notte Bianca' (2011), a version for violin solo of an earlier opus, 'White Night' (2006) for viola solo. The piano part was written as an accompaniment, and acts mainly as an harmonic counterpoint to the original violin line.

In the version for violin and vibraphone, Ross James Carey composed the vibraphone part for La Notte Bianca, thus giving birth to a new, collaborative musical creation.

The title is both a play on the original violin solo's title and a reference to the 1848 short story by Fyodor Dostoyevsky of the same name.
