Grading for Strings is a 3-movement work for string orchestra or 10 solo strings. It is in the form of a theme and variations where each movement is actually an augmentation of the three sections of the theme stated at the beginning of the first movement with analogous functions on a larger scale.

Difficulty: Advanced — Stongly rhythmic through changing time signatures with much use of harmonics in 2nd movement.
