Work Overview

To celebrate 125 years of women's suffrage in New Zealand, the New Zealand School of Music commissioned composers to each write a work based on the Suffrage Songbook, a collection of poems and prose found in the University of Wellington's Library.
 
Given that this poem is clearly written with tongue firmly in cheek, it has been set as a satirical pop number. Perhaps this is what Pelorus Guardian's strophic text might have sounded like if pop music had been invented in 1893...
