Andrew Schultz appointed Chair of Australian Studies at Harvard
Image: Andrew Schultz Harvard University has announced the appointment of composer Andrew Schultz as the Visiting Chair of Australian Studies at Harvard University for the 2021-2022 academic year. Named after Gough Whitlam and Malcolm Fraser, the Chair was established through a gift of the Australian government to Harvard University, in recognition of the American Bicentennial in 1976. Since then, the Chair has been occupied by outstanding academics and intellectuals, including Alison Bashford, Geoffrey Blainey, Raewyn Connell, Tim Flannery, Katherine Gibson and Chris Wallace-Crabbe.
'This appointment provides wonderful recognition of the ways a creative artist can also contribute to ideas and discussion in an outstanding international university context', Schultz says.
Andrew Schultz, who works as Professor of Music in the School of the Arts & Media at the UNSW, will share the appointment with Associate Professor Jennifer L Biddle - a leading social anthropologist and former ARC Future Fellow with expertise in Indigenous languages, art, culture and aesthetics.
