Australia Council - PPCA recording grants 2019
Five recipients of this year's PPCA (Phonographic Performance Company of Australia) and Australia Council for the Arts sound recording grants have been announced, with AMC-represented composer-saxophonist Rafael Karlen among them.
Karlen will receive $15,000 for recording an album of his music composed for jazz saxophone, The Australian Voices, and Camerata - Queensland's Chamber Orchestra. The other successful art music project this round was the recording and release, by Philip Samartzis, of a double vinyl album Polar Force - a collaborative sound art and music performance work developed with percussionist Eugene Ughetti of Speak Percussion.
The recording grants were established in 2013 through a partnership between the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA) and the Australia Council for the Arts. Other recipients this time around were folk/pop trio Little Quirks and songwriters Tia Gostelow and Ecca Vandal. Each grant recipient receives the sum of $15,000.
