Australian music on ABC Classic FM in March 2013
It's a diverse month of Australian music offerings on ABC Classic FM. We kick off with two concerts from the New Music Network's 2012 concert series featuring new music by Paul Cutlan, Daniel Blinkhorn, Timothy Franklin, Roger Dean and Matthew Burtner.
Then there's an unusual quantity of Australian vocal music across the month's schedule. New Music Up Late presents the broadcast premieres of the full three acts of David Young's operatic trilogy Minotaur from Chamber Made Opera. The month ends with a second chance to hear Gerard Brophy's Easter meditation Gethsemane with The Song Company. In between there are songs and song cycles by Alan Tregaskis, Larry Sitsky, Peter Sculthorpe, Peter J Casey, Calvin Bowman and Vince Jones.
There are also some substantial orchestral works on the menu from Graeme Koehne (courtesy of the SSO), Andrew Schultz (performed by the Canberra Symphony) and James Ledger (thanks to the WASO's Latitude Horizons concerts). And a Sunday Live full of harp music from Martin Wesley-Smith, Larry Sitsky, Ross Edwards and others.
On the internet there's more new music and talk for download in the New Waves podcasts. Subscribe to see them delivered weekly to your computer or other online device. Meanwhile we're continuing to add recordings from the ABC archives to the Rewind: the Australian Music Collection and working to improve the features and look of the website.
