Nat Bartsch, Tamara Kohler and Luke Tierney will join the Australian delegation at the Classical:NEXT industry fair in Rotterdam on 18-21 May as the 2020 Artistic Associates. All three will have an opportunity to network with other professionals from all over the world, with an experienced Classical:NEXT veteran as their mentor, and engage with the Australian delegation to Classical:NEXT, under the banner of the SOUNDS AUSTRALIA stand. Artistic Associates will be provided with a $2,500 stipend towards travel and accommodation costs, and their Classical:NEXT registration costs will also be covered as part of the program.

Nat Bartsch

Nat Bartsch is a Melbourne-based pianist and composer, at home across a wide range of artistic expression from chamber jazz to classical. Tamara Kohler is a soloist, chamber musician, inter-disciplinary artist and founding member of the Melbourne ensemble Rubiks Collective. NSW-based Luke Tierney works as a manager and agent for a number of contemporary and classical performers and composers - see website https://tier1arts.com/ for more details.

We had an encouraging number of high-quality applications for Artistic Associate roles in 2020, and were delighted to be able to offer this opportunity to three applicants instead of two, as previously announced. As before, Australian Artistic Associates come under the umbrella of the wider 2020 Classical:NEXT Fellowship Program - applications were invited from emerging professionals and experienced, senior students in the fields of composition, music performance and music presentation. Previous Australian participants in this program include Leah Blankendaal, Kaylie Melville, Aura Go, Matthias Schack-Arnott, Simonette Turner, and Belle Chen.

Classical:NEXT is a global gathering for art music with more than 1,300 professionals from all over the world attending the event in 2019. Classical:NEXT consists of four sections - showcases, conference, project pitches and expo. The conference section is set up to offer presentations, seminars, discussions, one-to-one and roundtable mentoring; the expo exhibits the work of labels, publishers, agents, festivals, associations and others, and serves as a meeting point for all delegates. Showcases are where artists and productions can be presented in a series of short concerts offering artistic directors, concert bookers and journalists and a unique opportunity to gain an overview of artistic activity within a short space of time. Project Pitches are targeted, fast-moving opportunities for creators and those on the lookout for new creations.

Artistic Associate opportunities at Classical:NEXT are funded by APRA AMCOS and the Australian Music Centre.

> Registrations for Classical:NEXT are currently open. SOUNDS AUSTRALIA and the AMC will be providing a platform to support Australians at Classical:NEXT. Before registering, please get in touch with Glenn Dickie at SOUNDS AUSTRALIA or John Davis at the Australian Music Centre to obtain the code to register at a reduced rate under the umbrella of the Australian stand.

> Artistic Associate roles were also recently offered to Reuben Lewis and Hamed Sadeghi to join the Australian delegation at Jazzahead! industry event in Bremen on 23-26 April. There will be a third Artistic Associate role on offer for a jazz artist to attend the 2020 European Jazz Conference in Sofia, Bulgaria, in September.
