Lachlan Skipworth,
Katy Abbott Kvasnica and Andrew Aronowicz have been selected
by ABC Classic FM to represent Australia at the 2016
International Rostrum of Composers. The Rostrum, hosted this year
by Polish Radio and the Polish National Forum of Music in
Wroclaw, Poland, is an international forum which facilitates the
exchange and broadcast of contemporary art music.
Representatives from the 30 national radio networks participating
in the IRC collectively present around 60 new works. An
adjudication process ultimately finds the most important works in
two categories: general and young composers. These works are then
presented in a range of concerts and broadcasts around the
world.
The three Australian works are Lachlan Skipworth's Concerto for clarinet and orchestra (2014),
Katy Abbott Kvasnica's
Re-echo for vibraphone and cello (2015) and Andrew
Aronowicz's Strange Alchemy (2013).
ABC Classic FM will broadcast highlights from the 2016
International Rostrum of Composers from Wednesday 1 June to
Saturday 4 June. Australia's entries, along with interviews with
the selected composers, will be podcast on Classic FM's
New
Waves podcast in June.
