Bundanon Trust and the Peggy Glanville-Hicks Composers House Trust have announced three Prelude residencies for 2021, with Aviva Endean, Matthew Laing, and Yitzak Yedid the successful applicants. Prelude is a national network of long-term residencies for Australian composers, housed in historic buildings and providing time and space for the creation of new work. The three residents are provided with sole occupancy of the houses as well as a stipend to cover living costs and travel.

Aviva Endean will be resident in the Peggy Glanville-Hicks House in Sydney. She is active as a clarinetist, composer, improviser, curator, sound artist, performance-maker and collaborator, and works across a range of contexts including experimental and improvised music, new chamber music, theatre works, and cross-disciplinary collaborations.

Yitzhak Yedid, the 2021 resident in the Gallop House, Perth, is an award-winning composer, pianist and pedagogue, whose interest lies in composing and performing concert music. Yedid has written over 50 orchestral, chamber, solo and vocal works, and won several international awards, most recently the prestigious Canadian Azrieli Music Prize, valued at over $200,000 CAD. Yedid is a Sidney Myer Creative Fellow (2018-19).

Matthew Laing is the 2021 resident in the Victorian-era Collingrove Homestead in Angaston, South Australia, near the Barossa Valley. He is a composer/violist from Melbourne and a graduate of the Australian National Acacdemy of Music. Following a successful participation in the Flinders Quartet's 2017 composer workshop, his first big commission Out of Hibernation was premiered by the Quartet in 2019. Subsequently he was awarded an Ian Potter Cultural Trust grant to work on the quartet with mentoring from Brett Dean in London and Berlin. Having participated in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra's 2020 Young Composer program, he was selected as the Orchestra's Young Composer in Residence for 2021.

Prelude is a unique collaboration developed between the Peggy Glanville-Hicks Composers Trust, Bundanon Trust, the National Trust of Western Australia, and the National Trust of South Australia, supported by APRA AMCOS and funded by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts. Prelude is open to Australian composers in all musical genres and practices, including world music, jazz, new classical/art music, pop, film and rock. Residencies can be for research and development or for the creation of new work or as a time for reflection and renewal. In its fifth year, Prelude has been managed by Bundanon Trust and the Peggy Glanville-Hicks Composers House Trust. As of 2021, it will be solely managed by the 'Peggy House' Trust.
