Sophia Mackson is a Queensland-based violist, composer, advocate, writer and educator. She has studied a Bachelor of Music at The University of Queensland, under the tutelage of Professor Patricia Pollett. She seeks to create, talk about and perform music that speaks to the intricacies of life, and moves audiences.

As a violist, Sophia actively plays and composes for the chamber ensemble, Cerulean Collective. Together in 2025, Cerulean Collective released their album "Horizons" through Corella Recordings with fantastic success. Sophia has also been a part of the Australian Youth Orchestra, Opera Queensland's Festival of Outback Opera, Nonsemble, and other ensembles. Sophia's love of performance drives her compsitional output. She strives to create works that speak not only to audiences, but to the performers as well.

Through her composing, Sophia has taken part in Ensemble Offspring's Hatched Home
Academy in 2020, Topology Launchpad Mentorship and the Women Composers Development Programme with Coro Innominata. She has won awards through QMTA's Composers Competition in 2025. She has had her pieces performed in the National Gallery of Victoria by ANAM musicians Daniel Casey and Helena Burns, Topology, Sketch, Cerulean Collective and Ellipsis Trio throughout Australia. In 2026, Sophia is excited to be taking part in "GenMuse"; a mentorship program run by the established Muses Trio.

Sophia has been interviewed by ABC Classic, ABC New England Northwest, and ABC Brisbane for her advocacy in classical music, particularly around being a musician and having ADHD. Sophia hopes to use her experiences to inspire change through her writing and creative works, as well as to communicate music to audiences around the country.
