Event Details
In just five years the ARIA-nominated Acacia Quartet has come to the forefront of string music performance with innovative programs combining the classical and the unorthodox. With special guest Emile Cantor, they will play three masterworks written for viola quintet: Vaughan Williams’ Phantasy quintet, Mozart’s String quintet in C Major, K 515 and a new composition, Holidays, written for Acacia and Emile Cantor by Lyle Chan. To add to the viola theme, Bridge’s Lament for two violas will be performed as well.
Violinists Lisa Stewart and Myee Clohessy, violist Stefan Duwe and cellist Anna Martin-Scrase form Acacia Quartet, which is featured regularly on ABC Classic FM. Emile Cantor is one of the world’s outstanding viola players. Born in the Netherlands and trained in Paris, he is a founder of the concert cycle correspondances focused on the relationship between art and music.
The concert will be preceded by a champagne reception and a private exhibition viewing at the Gallery.
Featured non-Australian music: Vaughan Williams, Mozart, Bridge
