Event Details
A concert of current and historically significant LGBTQIA+ composers, which deals with numerous elements pertaining to the lived queer experience, including the notion of ‘coming out’, in a world where the accepted standard is that we are all straight, and it is somehow divergent to be anything other. Snippets from the past, present and future celebrate Queer music, with works by Sally Whitwell, Aaron Copland, John Cage and Samuel Barber. And world premieres by Sam Williams and Robert McIntyre. Additionally, Christine Pan's new solo flute work reflects on the nuances of queer platonic friendships and the often invisible harm we experience when these face adversity or break down.
Featured non-Australian music: Poulenc Flute Sonata mvt 1, Copland Duo mvt 1, Barber Excursions 1, Cage In a Landscape
