Christine Pan (she/they) is a Sydney-based award-winning composer known for her versatility in style and malleability in form. Her passion for powerful storytelling through music spans into various areas of gaming, science, healthcare, film and theatre.
Pan's compositions have been featured by WASO, MSO, Ensemble Offspring, Goldner Quartet, Orchestra Victoria, Musica Viva, ABC Classic, ANAM, Tenth Muse Initiative, Vivid Sydney, HiberNATION Festival and other renowned events and organisations. She hasshowcased her works throughout Europe and the U.S including Unversity of Kansas, University of Nebraska, Fairbanks University, Rutgers University, Mount St Mary's University and Accademia Chigiana, Italy. In 2024, Pan premiered her solo clarinet work Echo Chamber, as part of the ANAM Australian Composers Commissioning Project. Pan received the MOMENTUM commission for her solo bass clarinet work Umwelt, premiered by Patrick Vaughan at Hanson Dyer Hall, Melbourne on Dec 2nd 2024.
Pan started their career as game music composer
with No Moss Studios while she was completing her undergraduate
study in Composition at Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
During the pandemic, she was
composer for Liverpool Palliative Care Unit writing music for
patients and staff and has contributed to research by University
of Wollongong and LGBTIQ+ Health Australia in this area.
Interested in multi-sensory concert
experiences, Pan has also curated her concert of solo chamber
works inspired and paired with five different types of tea. The
series has since developed into
Tea Break, series of Concerts in Moana Hall,
WA in collaboration with Tenth Muse Initiative for Fringe World
2022 and won the best music award category.
Pan has been involved numerous theatre productions since delving into theatre in 2022. Pan won the Best Sound Design and Composition of an Independent Theatre Production Sydney Theatre award for Moon Rabbit Rising and numerous Broadway World Awards nominations for Dumb Kids, Forgetting Tim Minchin and Rhomboid in 2023. Most recently she recieved KXT's Best Design nomination for her work on The Pigeons which premiered at KXT on Broadway in last year. Marvelous, her current theatre project is set to tour in Adelaide, Sydney then Melbourne.
Pan is a successful recipient of the 2024 Arts Music Fund and is working on The Parts We Give, her first song-cycle for two voices, piano and electroacoustics exploring the nuanced presentation of love within an immigrant Australian-Chinese Family. The work is set to premiere in May 2025 as a songcycle then as a chamber opera in October 2025.
