As a musician’s instrumental proficiency develops, so too does their artistic taste and temperament. Each ANAM musician’s recital is a snapshot in time - simultaneously summarising their year of training and revealing glimpses of their future selves. What music excites them? What do they want to communicate? How does their art help them understand the world better? Experience the unique and intimate points of view of each musician individually in this recital series. Hear what the next generation of virtuosi have to say, and how. In 2024 the ANAM Set is back in a special iteration. Musicians in their 3rd year of training present a specially commissioned work as part of their recital program. Memories, Dreams, Reflections "Dreams play many roles in our lives - they help us make sense of the past, provide a vision for the future, and contain our innermost desires. Our daydreams are where we define our best selves, where we test our values in pursuit of a better world. My program is dedicated to this elusive part of the human experience: Margaret Sutherland’s Sonata sparkles in a forward-looking language, Matthew Hindson pushes the limits of an ideal in his work Beauty, and the second sonata of Fauré displays a deep inward passion. The world premiere of Viewfinding by Andrew Chen will explore the limits of human consciousness, and the infinite ways it bends and shifts in every waking moment. I have long wanted to curate a program around a theme like this - and I'm so grateful to have this opportunity through ANAM! Each piece is offering really different challenges, and I think they’ll all add a unique angle to this performance. I’m also very proud in my final year of study to be presenting a recital mostly of Australian music. The cherry on top has been working with my wonderful ANAM Set composer, Andrew Chen, who has created a seriously intriguing work all about ‘…the many facets of waking perception.’ Come along to hear what that sounds like!" - Noah Lawrence Margaret SUTHERLAND Sonata for Cello and Piano Andrew CHEN Viewfinding (world premiere, commissioned as part of the ANAM Set) Matthew HINDSON Beauty Gabriel FAURE Sonata for Cello and Piano No. 2, Op. 117
