Performance by Australia Ensemble, Julian Smiles from the CD Works by various composers |
Work Overview
Beauty was written as a celebratory work for the 25th anniversary of The Australia Ensemble, one of Australia's great chamber music groups.
The piece features the cello as a soloist, making specific reference to the tone colour of the cellist for whom it was written, Julian Smiles.
As the title may suggest, the guiding source of inspiration of this work was to capture and develop material based upon the capabilities of the cello to invoke lyrical, cantabile material, both as a soloist but also within a soloistic role in a chamber music context.
