3:30pm Microtonality & Tuning
Rebecca Lane & Jonathan Heilbron
Reflections on parallel practices of approaching microtonality and tuning with a particular focus on rational tuning/extended just intonation. Looking at pieces that have been composed for them including Catherine Lamb’s duo Muto Infinitas (2016/2018), they will present their individual and collective methods for approaching, interpreting, and performing precisely-tuned music together.

4:30pm Memory in Music
Karen Heath
This workshop will explore how memory is formed when playing an instrument, and how we draw from brain imagery, body movement, and executive memory functions to remember the music we learn.

5:30pm Artistic life as practice research
Jess Azsodi
A discussion of professional practice in the life of a singer where theory and practice entwine deeply to better understand, enact and evaluate the unfolding of art-making. Using examples from the bespoke working methodologies she has devised and collaborated on from piece to piece, Jess will explain some of the ways she builds and performs the idiosyncratic embodied knowledges she has made the focus of her artistic life.

6:30pm Compositional Strategies
Anthony Pateras
A presentation of the compositional strategies involved in the composition of all 6 works from the evening’s program, which principally explore sound phenomena & electro-acoustic orchestration with very limited musical materials.
