On August 28, BackStage Music presents "eloquent new music interpreter" Ashley Bathgate (USA) and local creative music cohort the music box project in back to back sets of living music in a living space. Breaking the mould of a cello's traditional voice, Bang on a Can All Star’s Ashley Bathgate will perform works by frequent collaborator and friend, Kate Moore (Australian composer and recipient of the prestigious 2017 Matthijs Vermeulen Award) alongside new works by US based composers. Opening the night, ‘the music box project’ share music shaped by the visual and visceral with works by Cathy Milliken and Natalie Williams in addition to the premiere of a diptych collaboratively created by the ensemble, inspired by "OPERA + ORNAMENTS" currently on display at Conny Dietzschold Gallery.
