Event Details

A Cosmic Afternoon at the ABC with the Music of Margaret Brandman.

Come along and be part of the much anticipated Australian launch of ‘COSMIC WHEEL OF THE ZODIAC‘ on the Navona label (nv6160).

This unique song cycle for the twelve signs of the Zodiac, is composed by internationally acclaimed Australian composer/pianist Margaret Brandman, to the alluring poems of astropoet Benita Rainer.

"The astropoetry of Benita Rainer serves as the texts for this transversal through the zodiac exploring the unique characters of each astral sign. The music here is beautiful and truly accessible." Cinemusical review

This Australian premiere concert of the choral settings of Brandman's COSMIC WHEEL OF THE ZODIAC will be performed by Margaret Brandman herself on piano and at her side some of Australia's finest performers: Désirée Regina (Soprano), John Antoniou (Baritone) & the highly-acclaimed Chamber Choir "Coro Austral" directed by Margot McLaughlin.

The recent European premiere of COSMIC WHEEL OF THE ZODIAC took place in Prague (Sept 2017) with the Prague Mixed Chamber Choir and soloists.

The recordings were released in May 2018 to world-wide acclaim by Parma Recordings USA.

This fresh pressing gathered even further recognition when it was chosen to be "CD of the week" by Sydney radio station - Fine Music FM in early May this year.

An in-depth interview with Margaret was aired by Fine Music on 23-5-2018. (Michael Morton-Evans  "Conversations")

Also programmed for the concert are selections from Margaret Brandman's extensive oeuvre for voice, instruments and choir. For example: Mezzo soprano Elizabeth Hylton will premiere two of Margaret’s new Australian-themed art songs,  and  violin and piano duo, Maria Lindsay & Irma Enriquez will perform two contemporary classical works including ‘Jucaro Rhumba D’Amor’,  from Margaret’s album "SENSATIONS" (nv6041).

We can promise you a wonderful Cosmic Experience with beautiful music by one of Australia's most prolific female contemporary composers.

There are only limited tickets available, so book now!
