Event Details

Supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW, Sydney Wind Symphony is proud to present in collaboration with North Shore Wind Symphony a special concert program as part of an ongoing commitment to showcasing Australian soloists, composers and wind ensemble music in Australia.

This high-energy concert is the perfect balance of old and new, brass and wind, jazz and classical, French, American and Australian. Sydney Wind Symphony (Music Director – Fiona Lucas) presents a French-inspired program and is thrilled to be working with retired Principal Flautist of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Janet Webb, who will be performing the rhapsodic Chaminade Flute Concertino. Commissioned by the Paris Conservatoire in 1902, the piece tests the soloist with unending phrases, virtuosic flourishes, stunning melody and a dramatic cadenza. Another programmed flute favourite – the Doppler Andante and Rondo Flute Duet is a mix of traditional romantic lyricism and jaunty light-heartedness.

North Shore Wind Symphony (Music Director – Andrew McWade) presents a program titled 'Reimaginings' featuring repertoire with a distinct jazz influence, an Australian premiere and the Morales Concerto for Two Trumpets, which premiered at the 2013 International Trumpet Guild Conference, Michigan. The Concerto is designed for two soloists – the soloists fortify the melodic line in unison as well as performing dazzling solo lines with a virtuosic cadenza to finish.

Featured non-Australian music: Chaminade Flute Concertino, Doppler Flute Duet, Paris Sketches by Martin Ellerby, Morales Concerto for Two Trumpets, Amen by Carlos Simon, Piece of Mind by Dana Wilson, Marche Militaire Franchise by Saint-Saens,
