Event Details
One of the most celebrated composers of the past century, Arvo Pärt’s "Spiegel im Spiegel" is a meditative and deeply moving masterwork, with each meticulously measured note inviting performer and listener to interpret its profound emotional depth. This delicate work leads a performance of reflection and emotional gravitas, including Latvian composer Peteris Vasks’ Piano Quartet which grapples with a world detached from nature, contrasting darkness and turmoil with a glimmer of hope for the future. Written in response to devastating bushfires, Tasmanian composer and saxophonist Jabra Latham’s "Fire Music" expresses both anguish and beauty, describing the cyclical nature of fire as both a powerful destroyer and bringer of new life. In a world premiere, Melbourne-based composer Miriama Young combines her unique compositional voice with captivating soundscapes, merging the physical and metaphysical into a powerful and compelling artistic statement for our time.
Featured non-Australian music: Arvo Part - Speigel im Speigel, Peteris Vasks - Piano Quartet
