Event Details
The Gerard Masters Trio has been performing together since 2000, developing into one of Australia’s finest modern jazz groups. Led by New Zealand born Gerard Masters, the trio has released three albums of original music, ranging from high energy post bop, to intricate ballad and free improvisation. Always presenting jazz at its finest, this is a return COMA set not to be missed.
The Robot Sex Dolls (Richard Coates – keyboards, Gilli Atkinson – drums, Chris Soole – saxes) launch their debut album Saving Planet Pluto. 'It's contemporary Australian jazz - electronics, harmelodic approached improvisation (think Ornette Coleman) and deep 70s Miles kinda grooves.' The trio forged their sound during an 18-month residency at the notorious FAD bar, and supported Jon Cleary in Adelaide in 2008. They are joined on the album and for the launch by special guests, the extraordinary Cameron Undy on bass (Syd), the sublime Ian Dixon on trumpet (UK) and the award-winning DJ SUM-1 on turntables for a night of serious modern jazz.
