In this concert of contrasts, two biblical women, Eve and Jezebel are given angelic voice by Australian soprano Jane Sheldon. Fauré’s luminous setting of Belgian poet Charles Van Lerberghe’s poems captures both ancient and modern worlds in its impressionistic evocation of anxious rapture. For the world première of Andrew Ford’s No One Could Relax around Jezebel, Jane is joined by Australia’s finest percussionist Claire Edwardes in this sparkling setting of poems by Canadian poet Anne Carson.
