The premiere of Daniel Manera’s Operetta II, a fresh and light-hearted take on the supposed drama of generation Y: three couples struggle to deal with their secrets and indiscretions.
Daniel Manera comes from a South Sydney-based Italian family and started his career as an aspiring pizza chef with a gift for music. Nowadays, he lives in Oxford as a composer with several prizes and awards up his sleeve. Working on a doctorate and a series of ‘operettas’, his culinary interests remain a happy and healthy diversion! Manera’s operettas represent a contemporary take on comic musical genres of the past. His first operetta was performed at the Sydney Conservatorium two years ago and raised a few eyebrows. In Operetta II, Rossini meets rap and Banchieri goes busking as three young couples fight it out over their differences and indiscretions. The work will be performed in a simple semi-staging directed by Leonie Cambage featuring the singers of The Song Company with Roland Peelman at the keyboard.
