Event Details

See what all the fuss is about. Our fresh new ensemble has a core trio of professional musicians, Laila Engle (flutes), Julia Stoppa (clarinets) and Leigh Harrold (piano), and we like to describe our music as 'ear stretching, but not face slapping'.

Come to our housewarming party and enjoy a glass of champagne on us. You'll be treated to an aperitif of pieces to be performed in the 2010 series by composers: Katy Abbott, Matthew Hindson, Brenton Broadstock and Erkki-Sven Tüür.

Be prepared to have your soul destroyed by Matthew Hindson's Death Stench and allow the healing to begin with Katy Abbott's Making Angels. Erkki-Sven Tüür's Architectonics draws on his years of experience in rock bands and Brenton Broadstock challenges us to abandon the traditional centered tone of our instruments and find an ethereal quality in All That is Solid Melts Into Air.

Leigh Harrold: 'Playing Death Stench makes me feel angry. It hurts my hands like no other piece I've played and it brings out an aggressive side to me I didn't know existed.'

Laila Engle: 'I feel like a rock star. It's invigorating to make those sounds on a flute.'

Julia Stoppa: '..at the end of Death Stench, just standing there, knowing its over, I find myself shaking...all my energy's gone.'

Be our guest. This is a one-off opportunity as we gear up for 2010 in our new home. We would like to invite you to spend an hour of quality time with us to celebrate the launch of our 2010 subscription series 'A Right Royal Feast', at our new residence, the Guildford Lane Gallery, 20-24 Guildford Lane Melbourne.

Featured non-Australian music: Erkki Sven Tüür: Architectonics VII
