Event Details
Pianist Danaë Killian performs a powerful solo recital structured around Lewis Ingham's Ec(h)o, a sonic depiction of human influence on the planet. Written for Killian, this work responds to environmental degradation, drawing upon climate data, fossil fuel exports, and nuclear detonations, using the piano to explore the traces, or echoes, of human existence in our natural world. Killian is known for her intense originality and interpretive power in the performance of modern music. The Ecology of Silence and Reverberant Shadows I and II are a pair of solo piano programs, curated and created by Killian while working on Ingham's Ec(h)o. The first program featured Ec(h)o's premiere in January 2024. Subtitled 'The Echo that Howls into the Sky,' this second program is ferociously anti-romantic yet acutely expressive.
Featured non-Australian music: BARTOK Piano Sonata (1926); DEBUSSY Study in Opposing Sonorities (1915); BOULEZ First Piano Sonata (1946); CAGE 4'33" (1952); KOBAYASHI Mirror (1996); NIWA Blinking Patterns (2019)
