Three very different piano trios speak to the private/public nature of chamber music. Clara Schumann's piano trio is a consummate example of 'chamber music,' constructed with great intimacy and poetry, while Fanny Mendelssohn's piano trio constitutes an enormous challenge to the genre. This is a piano concerto masquerading as a piano trio, and perhaps reflects the composer's thwarted ambitions to transcend the world of private music-making for a more public sphere. Seraphim Trio is delighted to present the Australian premiere of Australian composer Elizabeth Younan's Piano Trio. Composed as a single movement, it explores musical texture, constructing an organic structure from fragmented musical cells and mosaics. combined with more complex revisions made later in life.
