Abigail and the Bushranger is set in the mid-nineteenth century. The heroine Abigail journey's 'to a distant town, on a long, long, road, up and down a mountain range, through country wild and strange, a journey dangerous and far...' She meets Flash Fred, a fierce bushranger, feared by young and old alike, but he has met his match the day he held up the Narrabri mailcoach and encountered the formidable Abigail.
The piece may be staged with simple costumes, set and props as indicated in the illustrations by David Cox.
This work also exists as an illustrated childrens' book Bossyboots written and illustrated by David Cox and published by The Bodley Head, Sydney, London, Auckland and by Crown, USA. It has subsequently received awards in both Australia and the USA.
