This set of 3 Impromptus titled Bush Inkling can be played as separate pieces. They are studies in colour, based on improvisations, which explore the piano.
These pieces are not at all intended to be based on literal bush and bird sounds. The title came about because these 3 Impromptus seemed to me - after writing them based on improvisations and sketches - to be like an impression of the feeling you get of the bush atmosphere rather than anything literal. They are all about, colour, tone, light & silence; exploring the piano in all its aspects and extremes of range, going into almost jazz piano briefly at times. The title came after the pieces were written; I didn't set out to try to re-create bush sounds on the piano.

The composer noted the following styles, genres, influences, etc:
The closest things I can relate 'Bush Inkling' to are the Debussy Preludes like Bk1 No 6 which are all workings of little fragments, lots of silence and repose. Studies in colour and gesture with occasional forays into almost jazz-piano.
