Sheet Music: ScoreDer ost-westspiegel : for solo accordion / Peter McNamara.by Peter McNamara (2012)

Product details
Der Ost-Westspiegel was written specifically for the internationally renowned accordionist James Crabb, and expresses the various contrasts of eastern and western Sydney. These contrasts and differences are numerous, such as the disparity in poverty, geographical contrasts and space, development, and numerous others. This also includes cultural differences such as indigenous and eastern/western culture contrasts and how we often misunderstand each other.
These aesthetic themes are related to the work's musical material in a number of ways. Firstly, extreme contrasts in musical material such as the register and/or character (light or dark for example). This material is also organised in a symmetrical structure. Symmetry, in fact, is another important feature, with much of the work's pitch material arranged in patterns as if there was a mirror image. This also relates back to the theme of the work, as a person from either the east or west would see a different reflection in the mirror depending on their circumstances.
